I think if Raigho was smart he would chase off Gabo, In this case simply to protect what is left of the pack. Gabo is injured and most likely left a blood trail to them. What leader would want these “Lighting snakes” and “Monsters. Elks with two heads” to be after them? If you approch this sceen from Raigho’s point of view it would make sence to chase off the wolf that could now cause his pack to be hunted from the mistake form one wolf that had gone back to the other pack.
to me it seems Raigho has dealt with packs that have taken human prey before. and this was why he moved his pack so quickly away. if he were to accept gabo back now his athority in my mind would seem weak.

I do have the slight twinge that all of you do in hoping he will take back gabo, however I believe that the best bet would actually be for him to chase Gabo off. atleast untill his shoulder isn’t bleeding. maybe just maybe he could send Gabo the other direction to reach the same place, while they take pass. it would lead anyone/thing tracking him away from the pack for a while atleast.

Great comic, magnificent detail and story line. Thank you for posting it.

I agree with everything you have to say, except for the:

part. I have a feeling that apart from Jera, the pack might not want Gebo to go, and I doubt that would LET them think Raigho was weak if he made Gebo leave. I think they would think he was too strict, too hard on decisions, I would assume the LAST thing on their minds would be ‘Raigho’s gone weak’, if he denied Gebo a chance to get back into the pack.

Also, I personally think Gebo has been through to much to have a CHANCE surviving on his own without going completely insane! You can tell by his eyes the amount of pressure the horrors he’s seen have placed on him. If he ended up dying with the new scent of the pack on him, then predators would come looking for a bigger meal, if they were hungry enough in this dry tundra. Or, even worse, in his desprete attempts to survive without being a lone-wolf, he might try and follow the pack. If he caught onto the track, then he would be leaving an even fresher scent for predators to come, and if he died trying to get to the rest of the pack, then there would no doubt be quite couple hungry animals, or humans,with the taste for wolf. If Raigho were REALLY smart, he would realize this and bring Gebo with them, no seperate track.

Whew! That was alot. Again, I agree with most of your post and respect all of it. I don’t want to get into a big argument.

Looks better if the mouths don’t ‘talk’. Wolfs Rain anyone? Too much anthropomorphism is BAD. So many shows/movies where animals make human gestures/expressions and it just looks fake. Looks like bad animation no matter how well it’s done. Anyone heard of the ‘uncanny valley’? Fascinating stuff.

THe Wolf’s Rain “Talking” was perfect as it didnt make the Wolves seem more Human besides the talking. So I think the best bet would be no “Lip Sync” at all for the Wolves, if this was made into an Anime. Im fine if it isnt made into one though.

You make a good point. Though do you remember/ever watch Animals of Farthing Wood? It didn’t feel too fake to me when watching, and the animals all talked. I can think of plenty of other animations in which the animals all talked with their mouths moving and it didn’t seem fake. Moro from Princess Mononoke is a perfect example, her mouth moved when she talked at times and it was fine (can’t remember if her son’s mouths talked when they spoke).

But if I had to say from the artist’s comic style, it probably would be better with a narration.

Yes, but there’s also Ginga Nagareboshi Gin/Densetsu Weed. The mouths move as if they were barking/growling/howling (sometimes, they didn’t move at all) but they do have human voices. GNG/GDW also had narration, too, stating certain scenes, ect. ect.

Seven was right behind Gebo after he ran off, so i do believe that she will be showing up quite soon, that could mean trouble for the pack.

Just reread the comic for the umpteenth time, and I have come to the realization that the pace of the story is absolutely perfect. The characters and scenery are picturesque and believable, and the dialogue is outstanding. Layout is seamless, tones are bone-chilling, and artistry is museum-worthy. Off-White is simply fantastic.

I think you meant to comment on the previous page, there are no raised tails in this page, and wolves definitely can raise their tails. Its a display of dominance given by alpha wolves

Wolfs can raise there tails trust me I have lived in Alaska for 17 years I see wolfs with there tails raised all the time.

I’m not sure where you’ve contracted this incorrect information, but wolves most certainly can raise their tails. They do it often to show rank and aggression, mainly the alpha and beta pair (in this case Raigho is the alpha and is displaying it). You can observe them on Animal Planet, Wild Discovery, National Geographic Wild, at Yellow Stone Park, and several documentaries and informative literature written on and about timber wolves/gray wolves with photographs.

Where did you learn that information? Wolves raise their tails as a sign of dominance. it’s just as much a part of their language as rolling over in submission or pulling their ears back or forward. o.O

And what say you to that, Raigho? I can understand Raigho’s attitude to an extent, but he’s definitely my least favorite of all the wolves right now. In fact I’ve never really liked him but there’s still a lot of story to go. He’s definitely got the potential to be more of a bully than Jera. Can’t wait for the next page, though. I want to see how he handles it; let’s see if there is any compassion in that woofy heart of his.

I’m betting he shows at least some compassion seeing as he has experienced the death of loved ones before (his own pups) but he may still keep his guard up because not only has Gebo broken that pack bond, but has also very likely left a trail. Plus Gebo’s unstable state, though quite understandable, may have negative implications on the pack later on if he cant fully recover.:/ nothing about this situation is easy for anyone.

Gotta say I absolutely love the word setup in this page. I really like how they are at an angle and how the bubbles themselves slowly lose their regular roundness and begin to resemble blood splatters.
Also, loving the way he sees the other wolf becoming a less familiar shape and how the lightning snakes actually go through it’s body.
You two have a wonderful comic, thanks for another great page! <3

Agreed with Holy Frap. Not only that, but I can’t help but to laugh at Gebo’s eyes, they look so.. Derpy. Especially in the fifth panel.

I think the “derpiness” of his eyes are caused by the intensity of his fear, so to speak. It’s an artist tool that’s being used to showcase his intense fear. His eyes are bug-eyed and unfocused, and there’s also muscle tenseness being portrayed.

The last panel bugs the hell out of me.
This whole page is building up and up, and then the last panel just drains all the feeling of fear in the piece.

It’s too anti climatic and sort of ruins the reading experience for the whole sequence.
