Well, according to the character page, Raigho’s spirit is pretty dark grey, so it,s only natural that he’d turn out to be a bit mean.

But then, alphas have to put other wolves in their place, so it might mean nothing.

Nah, I do not think he is mean .. he is just pissed, because everyone or the other males to be exact, are stepping over his authority.
Fehu is a fair challanger I would say, it is not easy to put him into his place without a fight.
But Iki is still a pup or at least he acts like one and has not a high rank, so he is definitely not allowed to step over it => Raigho gets super pissed.

Hurrhurr. I really don’t get why everyone is so upset with Raigho. While these wolves do act alot like people, they display some of their natural wolf behaviors. And trust me, this is natural.
The dog that we dog-sit for had puppies recently, and she did this often with them, as a sort of “training.” The puppies would yelp and whine while it was going on, but a minute after they would be just fine. Normal disciplinary behavior. Good job, Raigho. ouo-b

Yeah I commented that earlier on here.
The most people never see a mother dog with puppies, otherwise they would understand.
It looks very harsh sometimes, but it is needed, she educates them this way.
Still interesting to see, how much wolf behaviour our doggies have in them ^^.

Animals line wolves have a patch of fur that basically has almost to no nerves in it. The patch of fur is called the scruff, and it allows animals like wolves and cats to be picked up without getting hurt. While I agree he is being a jerk, Iki isn’t as hurt as he seems. He is probably just shocked. All animals do that, but humans don’t because we r not animals. So no, ur mom would probably not grab u by the neck and throw u on the ground. XD

actually, the males are not the most ‘dominant’ ones. there is an equal chance that the female may be the more dominant one of the mated pair. (in the wild, not the comic, not to say jera wouldnt mind taking the lead if she had to :p )

ACTUALLY dominance changes, the Alpha Male is most dominant during summer and fall, while the Alpha Female is in charge during winter and spring (mating and breeding seasons)There are BOTH a team and dominate the pack but they swing a bit depending on the time of year. (I learned that in “The Spirit of the Wolf” by Shaun Ellis aka the wolfman, really fascinating book, it actually covers beyond the basics of wolf behavior)

I do agree with Ragiho here in principle. It would be foolish, suicidal to go back toward the humans. But he has allowed himself to lose his temper against the one wolf he can’t afford to lose on this journey. Yeah, Iki was already “losing faith” in Ragiho. Alpha or not, Ragiho can’t force Iki not to leave if Iki doesn’t trust him. Really hope Fehu steps up with some sort of ‘this has gone far enough!’ response.

Google up alpha wolf or pack hirachy if you do not understand what Raigho is doing.
He forced Iki into submission, BECAUSE Iki has *NO* and I mean absolutely NO right to make such decision, as to leave on his own.
The alpha wolf has basically the word on leaving or not and Iki stepped over the border by saying ”screw ya all, I will go”.
He is NOT allowed to do this, nor say this, without the alpha’s O.K. -.-.
So this behaviour of Raigho is totally NATURAL for a wolf and especially an alpha wolf, in a wolf pack.
Did you ever see a dog mummy raising her puppies ???
She is doing the same, if they go too far .. it is called education v.v.

what are you ranting about? lol While you are right with your information, the OP didn’t say it wasn’t natural, just that it may not have been the best way to handle the situation. In normal wolf circumstances it would be fine and Iki would have deserved it (and if he had done that to Fehu or if he does it to Gebo it would be perfectly ok and even expected from an Alpha). But this isn’t 100% normal wolf circumstances.

Iki is not a normal wolf (Raigho’s threats are pretty much empty ones because he can’t actually hurt or kill Iki like he would do with another pack member). It’s important that Iki continue trust Raigho and his decisions. but …

He already said on pg 74 that his faith in Raigho was thinning because he keeps keeping things from them. Now he’s pinned Iki down and demanded once again that Iki and the others obey him with out question even though they don’t know what’s going on. Iki might not react well to that. ;) (I’m really curious about his reaction to this actually)

For all the wolfies saying that Raigho is being mean, Because these wolves are more human & “bootiful & majestic” I’m sorry to tell you wolfie fans & wolfaboos but this is NATURAL in a wolf pack. It doesn’t matter if he’s “stressed” in a REAL pack you’d get thrown on your ass for doing what Gebo’s uncle did earlier. So don’t have a bitchy fit because others are trying to justify it or bitch about it. It’s part of the canine hierarchy pack instinct grouping. If the boss let everyone have free rein he wouldn’t be the boss for long OR a good leader.

I have learned this from personal experience with a group of friends I have in the army. We wouldn’t be working together as friends if our “leader” let us jab at each other & whine at everyone. The last time anyone whined & had a bitch fight they where thrown on their ass. End of story.

It seems to me Raighos patience is being tested time and again, first by Fehu challenging his authority, then Gebo returning, then Iki wanted to go back and fight, Raighos head must be spinning from the tension in the pack.

Keep in mind guys, what looks like a horrible wound (and what would be to a person) is basically like Raigho slapping Iki. Yeah, it’ll hurt. But it’s not as awful as one would think. Bites to the neck are common for canine (and feline for that matter) animals to show dominance, convey anger, among other things. Yeah, it’s not good that he did that. But he’s not /evil/ or just overly abusive.

From what’s been revealed so far, I think there is a lot of weight on his shoulders. He knows what has to be done, and he’s getting a lot of pressure to do so because they have less and less time now.

I don’t believe Raigho’s reaction is because he’s “stressed” at all. Throughout the whole comic Raigho has always has reactions like this towards threats to the pack, or to those who didn’t respect his leadership.
Besides, his reaction is natural to his species. Yes these wolves are slightly anthropomorphic but they’re still acting like wolves.

Of course it is traumatizing, but if the comic is following natural behaviour, Iki should be fine in a minute.
In nature, they get ''told'' to stop it once, if they do not, they get punished, which looks worse than it actually is.
The punished one is shocked, as long as the dominant one is standing above them, but quickly recover when they are gone.
